SCCTM Awards

            The South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics has two awards to recognize the efforts of individuals that have produced significant and substantial effects on the teaching and learning of mathematics in South Carolina - the Outstanding Contributions to Mathematics Education Award and the Richard W. Riley Award.  Both awards celebrate the time, energy, expertise, and commitment expended by these individuals that have improved mathematics education in our state.  Their efforts have made positive differences for mathematics educators as well as impacted the learning of mathematics for students across the state.  These awards recognize contributions in curriculum, instruction and/or assessment of mathematics.

  Outstanding Contributions to Mathematics Education Award

The Outstanding Contribution to Mathematics Education Award is given annually to a mathematics educator by SCCTM.  It recognizes individuals who have through their time, energy, expertise, and commitment, made substantial contributions to the advancement of mathematics education in their schools, communities, state, and nation.  This person would be recognized for their contributions in one or more of the following areas: 

            *Contribution to SCCTM and other professional organizations

            *Classroom teaching, instruction, and/or assessment

            *Curriculum design, presentations, and program development

            *Authorship and/or research

 Richard W. Riley Award

The Richard W. Riley Award was established so that SCCTM could pay tribute to those whose work has advanced mathematics education in our state even though their primary responsibility is not mathematics education.
