Do you know an SCCTM Member that deserves the spotlight? Well here is your opportunity to turn the spotlight on them. Every educator in South Carolina deserves accolades. The Executive Board of SCCTM would like to highlight educators in our monthly emails and the MathMate Journal that have made an impact, big or small. This could be a project, activity, collaboration, good deed, etc. We want our members to know and benefit from all the happenings across the state. Using the link below please provide a few details that can be included if selected to be a spotlight. Spotlight Form

Christi McWaters, a teacher at East Aiken School of the Arts, is an inspiration in her 1st grade classroom and to colleagues across our state. She treats her 1st graders as mini mathematicians and they perform as problem-solvers. On any given day in her classroom, you can find creative problem-solvers at work with hands-on materials. It is the norm to see her students building with various materials in STEAM projects. She partners with local university professors and students in collaborative video pen pals utilizing Flip. She has coordinated her school's inaugural “Math Rocks” Day for school-wide interactive measurement activities and featuring a Math Magician with funding through a 2023 SCCTM classroom grant. Ms. McWaters also leads her district’s Aiken County Council of Teachers of Mathematics as an officer. She has presented multiple sessions for the annual SCCTM Conference. Ms. McWaters is a leader in her classroom

IngridScott-HJSHS - Eugene Bellamy.jpgMiss Ingrid M. Scott currently serves as Instructional Coach of Hardeeville Jr-Sr High School in Jasper County, SC. Over the course of the week, Miss Scott provides meaningful, engaging professional development for teachers, and she also provides thorough feedback for teachers based on their lesson plans. As a member of the school leadership team, Miss Scott often observes classrooms, engaging in the teaching and learning with students and providing refinements and reinforcements for teachers. When asked, Miss Scott assists in the development of lessons and supports district math curriculum guide development. Miss Scott, also, serves as a substitute math instructor from time to time. Although her background is elementary and middle school math, Miss Scott assists with supporting and teaching high school math, as well. It goes without saying that Miss Scott is a jewel for her school community. She is a true model and asset for her school and the JCSD system-at-large.

Miss Scott epitomizes the district's theme this year: "Excelling Beyond Barriers" as this is the work she does and embraces, daily.
